Our Story

THE BIRTH OF PURE

In the fabulous 80's, fashion designer Abby Kanak's career soared and celebs wore her dresses but lives were forever changed when daughter Pallas suffered a brain injury just days after she was born. "After many difficult years, we decided to turn all of our pain and passion into something life-affirming" says Abby and voila...Pure Home Couture was created. In 2002, the little shop on Hamilton's Locke Street South began.

LOCKE STREET SHOPS

In 2006 we moved down the street to the beloved atelier shop where we stayed until spring of 2025. Customers felt they were transported to a Paris loft space with soaring beamed ceilings and worn wooden floors. You were at once struck by the grandeur of faded elegance and the beauty of imperfection. Sparkling chandeliers twinkled above French Armoires and lovely harvest tables, brimming with abundance and the promise of spring. Reminiscent of some old world apothecary, senses awakened by the meanderings of Lavender, traces of Blood Orange and White Lilac. Lovely scented products piled high atop pretty cake plates and other-worldly mannequins tower atop tables. Vintage sideboards house perfumes, lotions, soaps, bath luxuries, candles & home fragrances.

OUR BRAND + PETITE PURE

Our scented journey began in the little shop on Locke in 2002 where our love of fragrance evolved into a passion that prompted us to begin making our own brand of natural Apothecary products for Bath & Home. Naturalistic scents that trigger poignant memories and transport us. Our brand stands by it's 6-free philosophy: Petroleum-free, SLS-free, Paraben-free, Phthalate-free, synthetic dye-free and cruelty-free. Our scents are a blend of essential oils and perfume-grade fragrance oils that fully comply with RIFM standards. Our ingredients are sourced from suppliers who embody our core values. Small-batch, proudly handmade with love in beautiful Hamilton. Our wish is to spread light and ignite your fragrant journey.

In the spring of 2025 we made the bittersweet decision to close Pure on Locke and we  shifted our focus to our online and wholesale business. We wanted a space where people could still shop in-store, sniff our scents and pick up orders. We saved all of our iconic fixtures and opened a studio storefront in Dundas, where we make everything, and as if by magic, Pure had a baby ...  Petite Pure was born!
